The Angolan Data Protection Agency “mostly known as APD” is the regulatory authority of the Private Credit Information Bureaus in Angola. The Private Credit Information Bureaus (CPIC) are an extensive database, which will include all relevant payment history of Angolan consumers, with the main objective of analyzing consumption habits and, consequently, improving decisions in granting credit.
With the first operating license granted to Bureau.ao (https://bureau.co.ao/), APD has been unfolding itself in search of best practices at the international level in what concerns the regulation of credit Bureaus.
In this way, a delegation led by its Executive Director, Paulo Pedro, visited for 5 days Italy and Germany, where it met CRIF, an operator specializing in credit agencies in Italy.*
With a view to debating issues related to the protection of personal data in the financial technology sector (Fintech), the Executive Director of APD, Paulo Pedro, accompanied by the Director of the Legal Office, Njunjulo António, also met with Garante, the Italian Personal Data Protection Authority.
The last day of the study visit by the Data Protection Agency (APD) in Europe was marked by presentations and exchange of experiences with the European Central Bank and the German Federal Bank.
During the meeting with the two financial institutions, the APD delegation, led by the Executive Director, engineer Paulo Pedro, was informed about Anacredit, a tool of the European Central Bank that gathers detailed information on individual bank loans in the euro area, harmonized in all the Member States.
The visit of the APD delegation, which began in Italy on the 2nd October ended at the German Federal Bank - Bundesbank-, where it was informed about the German Central Credit Register, the entity responsible for credit information for the financial and banking sector in Germany.
In addition to the APD members, the study visit, facilitated by the IFC (World Bank Group), included elements of the National Bank of Angola (BNA), a fact that will reinforce the dialogue relationship between CPIC (APD) and CIRC (BNA).
